Reviews of the Design for the 2010 Taipei International Flora
                                       Exposition Yuanshan Park Area

                                                      Shu Chang 1

                                                        Abstract
The design of the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition Yuanshan Park Area was
based on the master plan formulated by Taipei City Department of Economic Development.
In line with the plan, the park area comprised two new large exhibition halls (one was
canceled after the contract was finalized), three renovated small exhibition halls, flower
landscapes, landscaped and exhibition areas in the Children's Playground, a food court for
light meals, several toilets, renovation of the old Zhongshan Soccer Stadium bleacher section
into the headquarters of the expo, Pavilion of New Fashion, and Flora Rainbows.
For overall planning and design of the Yuanshan Park Area to be integrated with the flora
expo, we came up with three essential concepts as follows: 1. Recognition: easy recognition
should be part of the expo; 2. Mobility: convenient, safe, and user-friendly traffic flows
should be formed; 3. Ecology: create an ecological and sustainable environment.
Although planning and design of the project were performed within a tight schedule
and limited budget, thanks to great discretion and full support from the detailed design
consultancy—Resources Engineering Services, Inc., highly efficient project management and
a full range of integration, plus close and intensive coordination among the client, designers,
and construction units, eventually the team fulfilled the mission on schedule.
