ABSTRACT
The Taipei Metropolitan Mass Rapid Transit System Circular Line is mainly
located in New Taipei City. The DF113 Design Contract is one of the first stage
works of the Circular Line. The route travels through the most populated area with
active commercial activities and complex underground facilities in New Taipei
City. After the project is completed, it will be connected with the Airport MRT
Line, the MRT Xinzhuang Line, and the Bannan Line. In the design and
construction periods, careful attention should be paid to the connection with the
above MRT lines and the existing public transportation system. In addition,
engineering issues of proximity effect on the existing tunnels of MRT lines, Taiwan
Railways and Taiwan High Speed Rail should also be considered seriously. The
complex interaction between soil and underground structures is undoubtedly
another challenge to the analysis and design of geotechnical engineering. This
article briefs the abovementioned foundation engineering and the risk assessment.
They are followed by the associated design and monitoring layout consideration.
These could provide references for similar cases in the future.
