            center in Taipei, was completed in December 2013. It begins at Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall
            Station where it meets the Tamsui line, then runs east to Xinyi Planning District and ends near Four

            Beasts Mountain at Xinyi Road Section 5. The Xinyi line’s Design Lot DR148, from Anhe Station
            to the tail track at Xiangshan Station, passes beneath an area that is geologically characterized as a
            soft clay stratum. As the line goes east, the surface of the bedrock is gradually exposed due to the
            bearing capacity of layered strata.
                 This paper aims to discuss the obstacles of Contract DR148 construction and their solutions,
            such as: the pipe-roof techniques and the tunnel boring machine (TMB) used on a mixed stratum of

            soft clay and hard rock. With comprehensive design and integration, all difficulties and risks were
            overcome, and finally the line was completed smoothly and opened to the public.
