ABSTRACT The most important function of the depot is to perform the station
operation, stationing, maintenance and testing performance, and to take into
account the optimal and safe space in the planning and design, while at the same
time meeting the needs of future expansion and flexibility.
The depot configuration plan depends on many factors. The number of trains
required for operation depends on the minimum distance between trains and the
route length. Also, the size of the parking space depends on the number of spare
vehicles to be stored. The scale of the maintenance yard is planned according to
the maintenance cycle of each level; the overall configuration plan also needs to
consider the interconnectedness of the various buildings in the depot.
The Beitun depot is the first depot in the Taichung MRT network and is defined
as a five-level depot. This paper explores the design of the depot, discusses the
requirements for each level of depot, and introduces the configuration of each
building in the Beitun depot, in order to give the reader a preliminary understanding
of the plant configuration.
