Abstract

The structural system of the MRT Joint Development Project, the Daqiaotou
Station, is a “Seismic Base Isolation Structure.” The principle of the base-
isolated structure design is to reduce the structural response by prolonging
the fundamental period of the structure and increasing the damping ratio of
the system through the introduction of an isolation level with small horizontal
stiffness. By the function of the base isolation devices, the damage probability
of the supporting beams and columns reduced. The damage of the non-
structural walls and the building interior decoration mitigated due to relatively
smaller drifts of the building. Thus, the cost of building rehab after any severe
earthquake could minimize. The aseismic capability, the structural safety and
human comfort of the building can then all be improved.
