Abstract
According to the reliability requirements which have been confirmed and
allocated from system / subsystem level to equipment / component level, design
and RAMS engineers start to analyze the system for the HBD, FBD, and
functions of each equipment / component (LRU). The FMECA is to identify
LRU’s potential failure modes, to analyze the effect, determine the risk, and to
identify critical items for further controls.
After the FMECA, the failure rate of each LRU and the RBD are the input
data for the bottom-up reliability prediction. Once the reliability (MTBF) or
the availability of the system / subsystem has been accumulated / calculated,
the predicted value(s) are to be compared against the requirements for the
verification.
The friction braking system of the Rolling Stock was analyzed as an
example, including system breakdown, FMECA, and reliability prediction, to
present the RAM works in the Design Phase.
