                                                       Abstract
Taipei MRT is a pioneer in the field of construction integration in Taiwan. Different from
the traditional civil and architectural works, the MRT project involves more closely related fields:
civil works and electrical & mechanical (E&M) systems. In addition to integrating civil works,
architecture, environmental control, landscaping, and E&M systems, the MRT project has created
a huge amount of construction drawings at different stages including 2D CAD design drawings,
construction drawings, and as-built drawings which are provided by detailed design consultants and
contractors in accordance with contract stipulations. Due to the involvement of such a large variety
of specialized fields such as architecture, civil works, structure, environmental control, and E&M
systems, it became necessary for the MRT project to introduce new technology to facilitate interface
            coordination of each system.
At the end of 2011, 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology was first applied to
the detailed design of the Taipei MRT Wanda line. Through the integration of the existing electronic
information operation platform and the latest 3D BIM technology, DORTS has enhanced the
knowledge-based management system and the GIS decision-making support system to allow users
to upload, manage, and search for 3D BIM information. Furthermore, having evaluated and revised
the operation procedure of each construction stage, DORTS continually updates the BIM database
operation platform so as to provide timely references for design, review, and analysis use.
