                                              ABSTRACT

In order to achieve urban sustainable development, Taipei City Government
implements green transport and efficient public transportation as the important
policy. Therefore, Department of Rapid Transit Systems is planning the east section
of the circular line that will demonstrate the well connecting transit systems in
Taipei city and transit-oriented development (TOD) in practice. Following the
principles of TOD (density, diversity, design and transit) and using transit stations
as the hub of urban development and integration of regional public transit systems,
it could create a good urban environment, improve the efficiency of public transit
systems and reduce urban sprawl. On the other hand, to acquire the land of mass
rapid transit, it is important to complete the process of urban planning.
Consequently, the government puts a lot of effort into citizen participation,
horizontal communication and 25 symposiums and meetings were organized in
different stages. Within this context, Taipei is gradually developed to achieve
            sustainability and low-carbon city.
