Enhancement of Taipei MRT System Operation Control Center

                                                  Chen Wu-Chang

                                                       Abstract
The Operation Control Center of the Taipei MRT system began operation on March 28,
1997. Due to the speedy upgrade of subsystems and the information industry, much of the original
equipment is no longer being made by the original manufacturers and obtaining spare parts can
be very difficult. Therefore, replacement or renewal is necessary to maintain the reliability of the
MRT’s E&M system so as to ensure uninterrupted operation quality.
Currently, Taipei MRT’s system carries over one million passenger trips per day. Carrying out
renewal work at the “original location” without affecting operation quality is a critical issue for
             consideration.
The theme of this article is the MRT system Operation Control Center Signaling Computer
Replacement Project. The work scope includes:
. Carrying out the replacement at the original location without affecting operation to ensure
                      service quality
. Performing a comprehensive update of all subsystem consoles so as to provide a
comfortable ergonomically designed operation control center
.Providing a rear projector system with powerful and integrated functionality
.Providing a more human operation interface for the PC-based signaling computers
Keywords: automatic train supervision, rear projection display, ergonomic design, control panel,
                         signal equipment room, front-end processor
