ABSTRACT
BIM-4D is utilized to integrate BIM-3D models with construction schedules in
order to achieve project implementation sequence visualization. By importing
schedules into the design phase, scheduling engineers are involved in the BIM
creation process to integrate the design model with the overall schedule. Therefore,
for subsequent changes in project schedules or models, BIM-4D not only can be
utilized to review critical path changes and monitor milestones in real time, but also
be applied for project management.
During the implementation of BIM-4D, the most complicated part is finding
methods of quickly and efficiently incorporating the BIM-3D model with the
construction schedule. This study discusses the production of BIM-3D components
and the planning of schedules, then develops a labor-saving and friendly
operational mode. Moreover, it demonstrates the utilization of Synchro PRO, a
software program which is widely used abroad, to perform BIM-4D operations.
This study utilized BIM-4D to simulate the elevated and underground sections
during the design stage of the MRT project. For the deep excavation of
underground stations and the route structure of the elevated sections, BIM-4D was
applied to create the related working schedules for critical path changes and the
arrangement of different activities. Meanwhile, BIM-4D can be employed to
effectively identify whether or not scheduling rearrangements will affect milestones
during the construction process when obstacles are encountered or the delivery of
land is delayed. It strengthens the control of the project schedule.
