My art is inspired by concepts, shapes and ideas found in nature and the sciences. I’m
especially intrigued by the phenomenon of light and the relationship of light as a symbolism of
enlightenment. The Sunlight that enters the dome space is very celestial.

In order to create a unique design, specific to the Luzhou Station, I have studied the
architectural plans, and researched the history of Luzhou. I also visited the location, walking
the streets of the city to absorb the culture in order to design sculptures that would respect the
architectural proportion and aesthetic of the station and speak to the people who will encounter

the artwork in their lives. I could see the dynamic nature and chaos of the factories and understand
the need for more green and natural public spaces. I was immediately attracted to the space and
the possibilities of creating a sculpture that would be a metaphor for health and enlightenment. To

reflect the Sunlight from my sculpture into and onto the shaded parts of the station would bring an
uplifting experience and delight to young and old. A message of balance and good will from the
nature of the Sun. My thoughts of the egret theme became clear on my visit .
I chose a feather as the most beautiful element and the dancing feathers as a dynamic

interaction that follows the theme “dancing in the wind” . The egret’s feathers will reference the
past and history of this city that has grown, out of the reeds along the riverbank where egrets nested,
into a modern metropolis. The clean, sleek lines of the feathers dancing in the wind represent the

progress that Luzhou has and will make in its journey into the future.
I also got the inspiration from Chinese landscape paintings. It showed how Chinese people
project themselves into the nature and make themselves as the part of the natural world. It touched
me and gave me a sense of how to find a quiet space in oneself and hold that experience as a

vital survival technique. Also, those paintings gave me the understanding of the viewer placing
themselves into the space of the artwork as a transcending experience. The feather forms I created
for Luzhou bring to my memory the brush strokes found in Chinese paintings and calligraphy.

I am pleased to present my proposal for artwork to enhance and enliven the Luzhou Station and
will be very honored to be involved in this project that will bring rejuvenation to the historic City of
Luzhou and herald a new era in public transportation for the County of Taipei.
