Abstract
Planning and construction of the MRT routes constructed in Taipei City usually have to face
various challenges. To reduce any impact on the surrounding environment, creating a station design
that combines with its environment is taken into serious consideration during the planning and
design stages. This article aims to take Neihu line’s two underground stations, Songshan Airport
Station and Dazhi Station, as examples and describe two quite different styles of combining Taipei
MRT stations with their neighboring environments.
Located in the area designated for the airport, with the help of relevant public agencies such
as the Civil Aeronautics Administration and the military, Songshan Airport Station is to be given
the images of the nation’s gateway and a transportation hub through various design methods in
interior and exterior decoration, public art, and landscaping. From the viewpoint of community
services, Dazhi Station was designed by means of using the theme of the natural beauty of lakes
and mountains, valuing public opinions, and integrating local land resources so as to pursue a win-
win situation by providing convenient transportation and sharing MRT facility land for public use.
