Protecting Buildings with Tunnel Grouting for Neihu Line Section

Abstract

During the construction of the Taipei MRT system, buildings nearby construction sites are
inevitably affected by the project. Thus, all construction projects are required to conduct safety
analysis and draw up appropriate protection measures. Neihu MRT line Section Contract CB420
begins on the east side of Songshan Airport Station, passes beneath the airport, the Keelung River,

and arrives at Dazhi Station. Then, it continues running along Beian Road and reaches the side of
the roundabout at the southern end of Zhiqian Tunnel where it meets the elevated section. Most
of the section is underground construction which is prone to cause ground disturbances which
can easily impact on the buildings nearby. Consequently, related protective measures are a crucial

subject to be studied. In this section contract, a number of protective measures were applied to
shield tunnels, connection passages, Dazhi Station, the day-lighting section of cut-and-cover
tunnel, etc. Only the grouting method adopted on Dazhi Station is discussed in this article.
