The Next Generation of Neihu Line’s Vehicle System

                                                    Chia-Ho Kuo 1

                                                       Abstract

The Neihu MRT line, an extension of the Muzha line, connects to the existing tail rail of the
Zhongshan Junior High School Station (BR2) of the Muzha line. The system design and operation
of the Neihu line shall be fully compatible with the requirements of the Muzha line. “Compatible”

means all the vehicles of the existing Muzha and Neihu lines can run on both the Muzha and Neihu
lines, and passengers shall not need to transfer at any station along these two lines. The Neihu
line is expected to integrate with the Muzha line as a wholly compatible medium-capacity transit
system so as to fulfill passenger flow requirements. Restricted to the width of the existing Muzha
line vehicles and limits of vehicles’ dynamic envelopes, the design of the Neihu line’s vehicles
shall take the length of cars and width of car doors into consideration as well. The Neihu line’s
vehicles shall be automatically controlled and be operated normally without a driver. A minimum

vehicle combination for operation shall consist of one married-pair, and trains shall consist of
two coupled married-pairs to be used for commercial service. Furthermore, the vehicle shall be
compatible with systems and facilities (including E&M system and civil works: track alignment,
platform length, platform height, etc.) of the existing Muzha line.
