line, and Xinyi eastern extension—and the risk management consultant for the Taipei section of
the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport MRT line. While playing the role of GESC for 15 years,
MAA provided technical services associated with geotechnical engineering for the construction of
the Taipei MRT Tamsui, Banqiao, Zhonghe, Xindian, and Nangang lines and has won the trust of
the Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems (DORTS) and its affiliated projects offices.
Starting in 2000, when participating in the Neihu line (the extension of the Muzha line), Xinyi
line, Songshan line, Tucheng extension to Dingpu, Circular line, and Xinyi eastern extension,
MAA dedicated itself to the enhancement of MRT technology and quality, environmental
protection, landscape art promoted by DORTS. The enhancement approaches included value
engineering, innovative thinking, advancement concepts, studies and analyses of new materials
and new construction methods, introduction and studies of green construction and energy
saving approaches, MRT landscape and public art, renewable energy evaluation, professional
technician signing for public works supervision, technology transfer training, and case studies and
evaluation. In recent years while conducting the detailed design of the Circular line, Songshan
line, and Xinyi eastern extension, MAA applied the building information modeling (BIM)
integrated system to MRT design interface integration. Introduction of the high efficiency BIM
tool allows interface to be avoided in the design stage through coordination and integration,
helping to improve efficiency, ensure design quality, and achieve the goal of excellent design.
In this article, the authors review MAA’s 36 years of participation in the MRT construction and
its role in passing down technology and experience.
