Abstract
The construction of Taipei MRT has brought convenience to people's lives. However, the
occurrence of structures that belong to the environmental control system (ECS) projecting from
the ground surface, has impacted on the urban landscape. Thus, giving consideration to ECS’
functions, urban landscape, and architectural features has become a critical issue at the design
and construction stages.
Taking Station Y6 on the Circular line as an example, this article aims to illustrate the
design concept of how to combine ventilation shafts with the cooling tower field, remove
cooling towers originally located on the ground level to underground, and lower the height of the
projecting structures at the same time. Furthermore, the projecting structures will be beautified
through urban landscape design so as to keep up with the needs of practical functionality and
urban scenery.
