Management of Maintaining a Balance Between Excavated Soil and its Backfill
at Luzhou Depot From a Cost-effective Perspective

Abstract
This paper introduces two projects of recycling excavated soil in Taipei MRT Luzhou Depot.
One is the category of recycled excavated soil mixed with waste materials that was reused in a
non-structural area as backfill material and the other one is recycled structural soil excavated from
the workshop and stabling yard and reused as common fill and structural backfill material in a
structural area. Soil recycling not only solved problems regarding dealing with construction waste
but also met the government policy of environmental protection and resource reuse. In addition, a
huge amount of public money has been saved.
