The Planning and Design of U-Girder for Viaduct Structures on Neihu Line

                                                            1
                                       Chun-Hung Chen Chung-Yuan Yu 2
                                                       Abstract

I-girder viaduct structure systems have been used for a long time in bridge design however

since I-girder bridges look gigantic but not elegant, structural engineers and architects have made
great efforts to develop new viaduct systems for new bridges. The new viaduct systems should
consider factors such as external beauty, earthquake resistance, impact on local traffic, duration of

construction, construction cost and manufacturing technology. This article aims to introduce the
new U-girder system which has been deemed to meet all of the above-mentioned requirements and
been used on the viaduct structures of the Neihu line.
