Neihu Depot Transformed From a Hill of Garbage

                                        Ming-De Cao Rong-Yuan Chen 2
                                                        1
                                                       Abstract

The original plan for the Taipei MRT initial network included a Muzha line that extended
into Neihu. To meet the expectations of Neihu residents and the changes of environment, time and
space, DORTS began the construction of the Neihu line soon after the design was completed in 2003.

Neihu Depot, the heart of the Neihu line, following the straightening construction of the Keelung
River is to be situated in the Nangang Economic and Trade Park. This article introduces the history
of the location of Neihu Depot, describing how a garbage hill was transformed into a depot through
the efforts of various Taipei City government’s related departments. To reduce the construction

period for the Neihu line, DORTS sent official documents to Taipei City government asking for
permission to deal with the tendering of discarded soil removal ahead of time. After the discarded
soil had been used to fill in the maintenance depot site, it was pre-pressed for one year to allow the
earthwork period to be shortened. The location and characteristics of the maintenance depot base,

facility functions, layout of the depot buildings, design concepts, and landscape description are
also included in this article, providing a reference for the design of future maintenance depots.
